Truth Serum Collagen Booster vs Vitamin C Skin Boost

Last winter I tried out a very small sample of the Ole Henriksen Truth Serum. It lasted just over a couple weeks by using it once a day. My skin absolutely drank it up and improved dramatically after such a short amount of time. When it was all used up I knew I had to find something with Vitamin C to use in my morning skincare routine. Being in France at the time, I did not have access to Ole Henriksen products very easily, or affordably for that matter.

I ended up walking into a The Body Shop store and looking at their skincare range and found their Vitamin C line. One of the products in that line is a serum and is said to boost dull complexion. That sounded pretty similar. I decided to try it out since it was available where I was at the time, and much cheaper.

That was last year, this year I've gone back to my Vitamin C obsession since the cold weather has returned and my skin craves this ingredient in the winter months. I figured it was time to really give both these products a go and see which one is worth the money and which one should stay on the store shelf.

Ole Henriksen Truth Serum Collagen Booster - 1 oz $60.00
This stuff is one of the most popular products out there. Its creator is a pioneer in high end skincare products that are made without any parabens, sulfates or phthalates and contain mostly natural ingredients. When I am using this serum, my skin gets transformed. It drinks it up and adores it. It smells really good as well, it's as if I'm smooshing a bunch of citrus fruit on my face, without the acidic tingle. It's a clear orangey liquid that sinks in beautifully into the skin and makes for a great start to the day.

The Body Shop Vitamin C Skin Boost - 30ml $26.00
A great smelling product that promises to brighten dull skin and boost collagen production all the while giving the skin a smooth finish. When I read that description I think of a primer. I personally don't want my skincare and makeup to be as one (except for BB creams, but that's another story). If I'm using a serum, I want it to be primarily good for my skin and not to look good under my makeup. That being said I still like this product as a skincare item. It smells very good and applies smoothly. The ingredient list, however, is slightly off-putting since there are a lot of them and many with long scientific names (you know, the ones that are hard to pronounce) and the last few are added fragrance. Having very reactive acne-prone skin, I try to stay clear of products with unnecessary fragrances. Another thing I dislike is the very obvious sparkle of the product. It cannot be seen very well in the picture below, but when squeezed out of the tube and examined up close, you can see tiny glitter particles, which explains the 'brightening' effect it has on the skin.

The Verdict...
There is no contest here, Ole Henriksen's Truth Serum Collagen Booster is the clear winner.  It clearly improves the look and feel of my skin and is purely a skincare item. The Body Shop dropped the ball on this one in my opinion. It should be marketed more as a primer instead of a skincare product.

Let me know what you all think of these two products and if there are any other Vitamin C serums out there I should try.

xx
